Yoga in Koh Tao

One shala, two locations, and a practice that scales from a single drop-in class to a 200-hour certification.

In short

Blue Chitta runs yoga on Koh Tao from two locations: the main sea-view shala in Mae Haad, and sunrise classes at the High the Moon viewpoint. A single class is 350฿, all equipment is provided, and no experience is needed. Retreats and Yoga Alliance teacher trainings continue the same practice for longer.

A class

Walk in fifteen minutes early, borrow a mat, and take the class that is on. Hatha and Fluid Flow are the gentlest places to start; Yin is for the day after a dive. The shala has sea on one side and jungle on the other, and at 6:30am the same practice happens above the island at High the Moon.

A few days

Stay, and the practice stops being a visit. One class, one meal and a bed by the sea is the simplest version; unlimited classes and a week you build yourself is the next; seven days with one teacher and one classical method is the one that changes something.

Students learning together during teacher training

A month, or a calling

Four weeks of classical Ashtanga and Hatha, six days a week, and a Yoga Alliance certificate at the end. Or a shorter immersion, a foundation course, or the 300-hour advanced training for teachers who already hold a 200.

Why yoga sits next to freediving here

Depth in freediving is a direct side effect of how relaxed you are. Yoga teaches the body to release on command and the mind to stop overthinking, targeted lung stretching keeps the breathing organs supple under pressure, and better body awareness cleans up your kicking, pulling and equalising. That is why both live under one roof at Blue Chitta.

What makes it different here

A shala with sea view on one side and jungle on the other, teachers who live on the island rather than pass through it, an on-site vegetarian café and a dorm twenty steps from the mat. The whole day supports the practice, not just the hour on it.

All of them, side by side.

Retreats include a bed in the sea-view wellness dorm and at least one meal a day. Every price is per person; low-season rates are lower.
